I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!
My family has been fighting off a cold these last few days, but I'm starting to feel better and got back in the swing of things today. I wrote a little over a thousand words this morning (not bad considering that was all done before 7:00 a.m.). I added those to chapter one of my next book and went back and edited the chapter. I've decided to try editing as I go instead of saving it all for the end of the process. That way I can at least weed out the silly mistakes as I go and focus on bigger issues when I'm done with the first draft of the book.
That's the thing about being a writer. I'm always looking for ways I can improve, be it finding ways to manage my time better or strengthen my writing. I can say without a doubt that there's been a massive improvement in my writing over these last couple of years. Much of that has just been a matter of working on it daily. Or close to it, at least. Some writers are very strict about meeting a minimum word count every day, which is awesome. As much as I'd like to do that, I'm a mom first. Sometimes that means playing comes before writing. Sometimes that means sleeping in instead of waking up early and writing so that I can be well-rested and attentive. It might mean that I'm less productive or prolific than I'd like to be. And I'm okay with that. My family is the most important thing in my life. It's all about priorities.
Spread joy today!
